HOROSCOPE 2000:
Perspectives for the years 1999 to 2004
Reg:  $45. -- Now:  $33.

Astrological cycles do not take account of human calendars, and the movements of the planets have their own logic and timing. If we were to take any period in history, we might find any number of possible planetary configurations which give a particular flavour and meaning to that time. But from the years around the Millennium we expect a great deal more, for either good or ill. Because all humanity places such importance on The Millennium, we are particularly attuned to the currents of the time and able to respond more acutely, with greater hopes and increased creativity.

What is the special flavour of this time? What can astrology tell us as we move from the 20th century into the 21st? First of all, this Millennium is different from the one which preceded it a thousand years ago because it happens to coincide with the changing of the astrological ages. Most people have heard about the Age of Aquarius, but what does it really mean? For the first time in 250 years Pluto has entered Sagittarius, Neptune is finally again in Aquarius, this time together with Uranus. Each of us is touched in a different way by these collective constellations, depending on the placements in the birth chart.

Liz Greene analyses these individual connections and other important transits and progressions of the years 1999 through 2004 in the Horoscope 2000. Besides these personal themes she explains the influences on the generation group to which we belong and also the horoscope of the country where we live.

Author of HOROSCOPE 2000

Dear Reader,

It is obvious to everyone that we are in a time of enormous change. This is not unique to our times; but what IS unique is the speed of the current technological, political and economic shifts, which for many people are simply too rapid to absorb. This leaves many of us with deep anxiety about the future and about our individual capacity to affect and make a contribution to the world around us. As Bob Dylan once wrote during the great cyclical conjunction of Uranus and Pluto during the 1960's:

"You'd better start swimming or you'll sink like a stone,

For the times they are a-changin'."

But how are we to learn how to swim in such powerful currents?

Astrology is a practical tool, affirmed by millennia of experience, by which we may get a glimpse of the meaning of the time and our individual place in whatever collective zeitgeist is moving around and within us. We may be able to do little individually in terms of controlling the world. For that matter, world leaders would appear equally unable to exercise such control, despite their apparent power.

But we can make the effort to know more about ourselves as individuals, so that we are able to intelligently assess where our strengths lie and what we are able to contribute, and what we need in order to feel we are swimming rather than sinking. And we may also, armed with a reasonable quota of self-knowledge, respond differently to what we meet in the outer world, thereby making a big individual step toward creating the kind of future we hope to see. The future is, after all, not "fated in the stars", but shaped by individuals.

And the nature of who we are, and the kinds of individual cycles through which our inner patterns are expressed, are described by the horoscope. Computer-generated horoscopes cannot be as personal or as highly individualised as those offered by individual astrologers; but they provide a launching pad for a journey which, after all, is not a species of indulgent self-preoccupation, but rather, an eminently practical approach to the enormous changes in consciousness which are affecting every individual on this planet.
